What exists today: nothing you can join yet. Mesh is a design in progress, and this page exists to describe the intent and to collect what people would actually want from it.
The people worth connecting across disciplines are usually the hardest to find, because they are indexed by their own field. Mesh is about that problem.
The problem, stated precisely
A neuroscientist who needs a representation-learning collaborator can find ten thousand machine-learning researchers and no way to tell which three would care about their question. The search tools are excellent within a field and useless across one: citation graphs cluster by discipline, keyword search returns the vocabulary you already know, and the introductions that actually work still happen because someone in a corridor knew both people.
Mesh is the question of whether that corridor can be built deliberately, at the scale of a global community, without becoming a social network nobody asked for.
What it would have to be to be worth existing
Three properties, and it is not worth building without all three.
Indexed by problem, not by title. The useful unit is “I am stuck on this and it is not my field”, not a job description and a photograph.
Warm introductions, not cold lists. A directory of ten thousand names is the problem restated, not the solution. What matters is a small number of good matches made by people or systems that understood both sides.
Reciprocal by construction. Interdisciplinary collaboration fails when one side is a service provider. Any matching that ignores what each side gets out of it will produce collaborations that die in month three.
What we will not build
There is no member directory and no profile on this site, and there will not be: a static site cannot honour a deletion request, so it holds no personal data at all. Whatever Mesh becomes will live behind its own system with its own consent, export, and deletion guarantees, or it will not launch.
We are also not building a feed, a follower count, or a messaging product. Those exist, they are free, and the community is already on them.
Where it stands
Nothing you can join yet. Mesh is a design in progress, and there is no date — we will not invent one to make this page look busier. What would help most right now is being told what you would actually want from it, especially if you have been on the wrong end of the problem above.
